Purple Lemonade – Hemp Genetics & Breeding Overview

Purple Lemonade is a premium hemp variety developed through a collaborative breeding program between Sativa Creations and Johnny’s Hemp, focused on the selection, stabilization, and breeding of high-performance hemp genetics with strong terpene expression and distinctive coloration.

Genetic Background

Lemon Purple 34 was selected by Johnny’s Hemp in Sicily, Italy, from a ReD Seeds population produced by Sativa Creations. The original cross is an F1 hybrid between Lemon Buddha S4 and Pink Panther (High Alpine Genetics), combining elite terpene profiles with strong agronomic traits.

The initial population showed clear phenotypic variation, with approximately 60% green-flowering plants and 40% purple-flowering plants, all expressing high aromatic intensity. This genetic diversity allowed for precise phenotype selection based on flower color, terpene profile, and overall plant structure.

Phenotype Selection

The selected phenotype displays a balanced green and purple flower expression, characterized by purple-red calyxes and green leaves. The terpene profile is dominant and highly aromatic, with lemon as the primary descriptor, supported by sour, acidic, and slightly funky undertones—making Lemon Purple 34 particularly attractive for terpene-driven hemp markets.

Backcrossing & Stabilization

To improve uniformity and genetic stability, the selected phenotype was crossed (F1) with an ancestral clone from the Hands of Buddha line (HOBS3). This clone has been consistently used for its proven ability to stabilize cannabinoid content, floral structure, and overall progeny consistency across generations.

Plant Characteristics

Purple Lemon is a high-yielding, stable hemp variety with excellent field performance. Flowers show a distinctive mix of green and purple coloration, purple-red calyxes, and green foliage. The terpene profile is loud, clean, and easily recognizable, dominated by lemon flavors combined with acidic, sour, and funky notes.
